My shaker oval wooden boxes are a reproduction of the original design, handcrafted by myself in the UK, made famous by the Shaker community during the mid 19th century. Boxes range from size 0 through 7, having thin slender sides, symmetrical joints and neat tight-fitting lids. The sides are held tightly together using copper tacks; the lids and bottoms are held in place using wooden pegs, forming a very strong and decorative box. Old Fashioned Milk Paint contains just milk protein (casein), lime and natural earth or mineral pigments, making it environmentally friendly, non-toxic, VOC-free, baby-safe, food-safe and biodegradable. A great thing about milk paint is that the colour will never fade.
Although the colour of the milk paint will never fade, it is recommended to protect the colour from everyday oils and dirt which could stain it. Thus a hardwax oil and wax is applied inside and out then hand buffed. Giving a highly lustrous and hardwearing finish, as well as helping to cover marks and scratches enhancing the natural beauty of the wood.
